about us

Agapé Language Centre (ALC) is a non-sectarian, non-profit, registered charitable organization. Agape began in 1997 with the goal to help new immigrants improve their English language skills.

To accomplish this, Agapé Language Centre continues to work with a mix of experienced teachers and volunteers who empower our new neighbors and facilitate their integration into Canadian society in Calgary.

These caring volunteers and trained professionals have worked hard to build a sense of community within our classes.

We help new immigrants improve their English language skills, understand Canadian culture, make new friends, and feel more at home in Canada by providing educational instruction and moral support to those requiring ESL training.

We Provide:

  • A safe friendly environment where students can establish relationships with teachers, fellow students and others in their new community.
  • Excellent language training through ESL Classes, LINC programs, and life skills electives.
  • Events which give students opportunities to strengthen and develop new friendships.
  • Opportunities for students to discover God’s love through programs like ESL Bible studies.

WHAT teachers SAY

"I am passionate about Agape Language Centre because there is a strong sense of love and community, from the coordinator, staff and instructors. I love the connection with the Alberta and federal government LINC programs, together with AGAPÉ's obvious spiritual commitment to love and serve immigrant communities in Calgary. The second floor of BP Church where Agapé Language Centre meets is especially equipped, with great personnel and technical equipment (projection, wireless, computer lab and photocopier/scanner), which makes interactive learning possible with our students. "

StudentS' Experiences

One Agapé student commented that when she attended a parent-teacher interview at her child's school, she felt comfortable talking with the teacher about her child's progress, giving her more confidence to attend these types of meetings.

Recently an Agapé student, a level CLB 5 graduate, was offered an opportunity to train as an electrician. His employer had noticed his strong work skills and English language abilities, confident that he could take on extra responsibility. This was a great opportunity for the student, who had improved his English skills enough to advance in his career.
